Clodius (Parnassian Clodius) butterflies are
found throughout
Canada and the Western United States. Male Clodius
butterflies patrol their habitat to find females
and after just one mating session they will attach
a pouch to the female in order to prevent her
from achieving multiple mating's. Afterwards the
females scatter their eggs singly on their host
plant. Clodius butterflies spend virtually their
entire adult life searching for flower nectar
in the open woods, alpine areas, meadows and along
rock outcrops interrupted by one migratory flight
that lasts from June to July.
