Also known as the citrus swallowtail, the papilio
demodocus butterfly is a common large black and
pale yellow butterfly seen frequently in the gardens
of South Africa and is considered a pest to citrus
trees in the region. Female butterflies of
this species are larger than the males and have
blue spots on their hindwings with orange on their
outer sides as opposed to yellow that is found
exclusively on the outer sides of males.
