California's spectacular state insect, the yellow
California Dogface butterfly or dog head (Colias
eurydice Boisduval), appeared on a U.S. postage stamp
in 1976. Male Dogface butterflies have a yellow silhouette
of a dog's head on their wings, thus you get name "dog
face". Female Dogface Butterflies are usually
entirely yellow with a black spot on their upper
wings. All butterflies belong to the order Lepidoptera
and one of the superfamilies, either Hesperioidea
(the skippers) and Papilionoidea (all other butterflies).
People who study or collect butterflies (or closely
related moths) are called lepidopterists or entomologists
and it is growing in popularity as a hobby too.
Have fun for your students, family and friends as you build your own collection
of electronic butterflies, dragonflies and moths. Every artificial insect
has been designed to be very realistic in terms of their colors, wing size
and even the movements of their wings. There are 23 different electronic
insects for you to choose from in our collection that includes discount
packs, self-starter kits, add-on kits, insect magnets, spare wings, and
accessories. The Southern Dogface (Colias Cesonia) Complete Kit, with its
unique Dogface wing design, is very easy to set up on any object or display
by using their tiny metal legs to position the bug body. |
