Moths are mostly colored to blend in with their
environment, usually in the likeness of trees
or plants, to avoid detection by predators. This
yellow moth is another example of that, with intriguing
autumn leaf-like patterns.
The false double eyespots
in each wing can be suddenly exposed in order to
startle a predator that it senses might attack.
