| The Atlas Moth has the largest wing surface
area of any moth, but not the longest wings. It
is so named because its wing patterns resemble
maps, and an atlas is a collection of such maps.
Atlas Moth wings have triangular transparent "windows" whose
purpose still isn't well understood.
The wing tips of this moth are hooked and faintly
resemble a snake's head complete with an eye,
to ward off predators. |
