Stick Insects in Picture Frames |
 |
|
| Stick insects (or phasmidae) are widely distributed
around the world, mostly in tropical regions sitting
on the plants that they eat. Stick insects occupy
an evolutionary niche which holds particular interest
for scientists. Most commonly they are appreciated
for their uncanny ability to blend in with sticks
and twigs that pervade their environment. These
insects can blend into a whole range of backgrounds
that includes even bark and leaves, not just sticks.
You don't have to be an insect collector to appreciate
nature's most well known master of camouflage. |
