| It looks like a beautifully blooming
yellow flower, but its a stick insect! Amazingly,
this stick insect's brightly colored wings are
used mostly to flash open and startle potential
predators, such as birds, who happen to be
the stick insect's number one predator. Therefore
stick insects feed at night when birds aren't
around as much. Even when it is dark, the stick
insect is not always safe, so they have to
move slowly and quietly when feeding to avoid any
quick movements that might provide a visual clue
or make a noise that would alert its presence to
